Nehemiah Chapter 8 - | Early Church Bible

1: And [G2532] arrived [G5348] the [G3588] month [G3376] the [G3588] seventh [G1442], and [G2532] the [G3588] sons [G5207] of Israel [were] in [G1722] their cities [G4172][G1473]. And [G2532] gathered together [G4863] all [G3956] the [G3588] people [G2992] as [G5613] man one [G1520] into [G1519] the [G3588] wide [place] [G4114] the [G3588] in front of [G1715] gate [G4439] the [G3588] water [G5204]. And [G2532] they told [G2036] the [G3588] Ezra the [G3588] scholar (scribe) '[G1122] (sofer [H5613]) to bring [G5342] the [G3588] scroll of law [G3551] of Moses, which [G3739] BOSS gave charge [G1781][G2962] to [ the [G3588] Israel.
2: And [G2532] brought [G5342] Ezra the [G3588] priest [G2409] the [G3588] law [G3551] before [G1799] the [G3588] assembly [G1577], from man unto [G2193] woman [G1135], and [G2532] all [G3956] the [G3588] [ones] perceiving [G4920] to hear , on [G1722] day [G2250] one [G1520] of the [G3588] month [G3376] the [G3588] seventh [G1442].
3: And [G2532] he read in [G1722] it [G1473] before the [G3588] square [G4113] of the [G3588] [one] before [G1715] the [G3588] gate [G4439] of the [G3588] waters [G5204], from the [G3588] hour [G5610] of the [G3588] illuminating by the [G3588] sun [G2246] until [G2193] middle [G3322] of the [G3588] day [G2250], before men and [G2532] women [G1135]. And [G2532] they [G1473] were perceiving [G4920], even [G2532] all ears [G3775][G3956] of the [G3588] people [G2992], to [G1519] the [G3588] scroll of the [G3588] law [G3551].
4: And [G2532] stood [G2476] Ezra the [G3588] scholar (scribe) '[G1122] (sofer [H5613])] upon [G1909] rostrum wooden [G3585], the [G3588] [one] he made [G4160] for [G1519] the [G3588] delivering a public address [G1215]. And [G2532] stood [G2476] next to [G2192] him [G1473], Mattithiah, and [G2532] Shema, and [G2532] Anaiah, and [G2532] Uriah, and [G2532] Hilkiah, and [G2532] Maaseiah at [G1537] his right [G1188][G1473]. And [G2532] at [G1537] left [G2176], Pedaiah, and [G2532] Mishael, and [G2532] Malchiah, and [G2532] Hashum, and [G2532] Hashbadana, and [G2532] Zechariah, and [G2532] Meshullam.
5: And [G2532] Ezra opened the [G3588] scroll before [G1799] all [G3956] the [G3588] people [G2992], for [G3754] he [G1473] was above [G1883] the [G3588] people [G2992]. And [G2532] it came to pass [G1096] when [G2259] he opened it [G1473], stood [G2476] all [G3956] the [G3588] people [G2992].
6: And [G2532] Ezra blessed [G2127] Boss '[G2962], the [G3588] God '[G2316] the [G3588] great [G3173]. And [G2532] answered all [G3956] the [G3588] people [G2992], and [G2532] said [G2036], Amen , amen , lifting up [G1869] the [G3588]ir hands [G5495][G1473]; and [G2532] they bowed [G2955] and [G2532] did obeisance [G4352] to the [G3588] Boss '[G2962] with [G1909] [their] face [G4383] upon [G1909] the [G3588] land '[G1093].
7: And [G2532] Joshua, and [G2532] Bani, and [G2532] Sherebiah, [G2532] Jamin, and [G2532] Akkub, [G2532] Shabbethai, and [G2532] Hodijah, and [G2532] Maaseiah, and [G2532] Kelita, and [G2532] Azariah, and [G2532] Jozabad and Hanan, and [G2532] Pelaiah, and [G2532] the [G3588] Levites, were bringing understanding to the [G3588] people [G2992] in [G1519] the [G3588] law [G3551]. And [G2532] the [G3588] people [G2992] [were] at [G1722] the [G3588] [their] station [G4714][G1473].
8: And [G2532] they read in [G1722] the [G3588] scroll of the [G3588] law [G3551] of the [G3588] God '[G2316]; and [G2532] Ezra taught [G1321] and [G2532] gave orders [G1291] in [G1722] a higher knowledge of Boss '[G2962], and [G2532] perceived [G4920] the [G3588] people [G2992] in [G1722] the [G3588] reading .
9: And [G2532] Nehemiah spoke [G2036], who [G3739] is Artasastha, and [G2532] Ezra the [G3588] priest [G2409] and [G2532] scholar (scribe) '[G1122] (sofer [H5613]), and [G2532] the [G3588] Levites, the [G3588] [ones] bringing understanding to the [G3588] people [G2992]. And [G2532] they said [G2036] to all [G3956] the [G3588] people [G2992], day [G2250] a pure ' It is to the [G3588] Boss '[G2962] our God '[G2316][G1473], do not [G3361] mourn [G3996] nor [G3366] weep [G2799]! for [G3754] wept [G2799] all [G3956] the [G3588] people [G2992] as [G5613] they heard the [G3588] words [G3056] of the [G3588] law [G3551].
10: And [G2532] he said [G2036] to them [G1473], Go [G4198] and [G2532] eat [G2068] fatness , and [G2532] drink [G4095] sweetness , and [G2532] send portions [G3310] to the [G3588] [ones] not [G3361] having [G2192]! for [G3754] pure ' is the [G3588] day [G2250] to the [G3588] Boss '[G2962] our God '[G2316][G1473]. And [G2532] do not [G3361] faint ! for [G3754] the [G3588] joy [G5479] of Boss '[G2962], this [G3778] is our strength [G2479][G1473].
11: And [G2532] the [G3588] Levites quelled all [G3956] the [G3588] people [G2992], saying [G3004], Keep silent [G4623], for [G3754] day [G2250] [is] pure ', and [G2532] do not [G3361] fall down [G2667]!
12: And [G2532] went forth all [G3956] the [G3588] people [G2992] to eat [G2068], and [G2532] to drink [G4095], and [G2532] to send portions [G3310], and [G2532] to make [G4160] gladness [G2167] great [G3173]; for [G3754] they perceived [G4920][G1722] the [G3588] words [G3056] which [G3739] he made known [G1107] to them [G1473].
13: And [G2532] on [G1722] the [G3588] day [G2250] the [G3588] second [G1208] gathered together [G4863] the [G3588] rulers of the [G3588] families [G3965] [with] all the [G3588][G3956] people [G2992], [and] the [G3588] priests [G2409], and [G2532] the [G3588] Levites, to [G4314] Ezra the [G3588] scholar (scribe) '[G1122] (sofer [H5613]), to attend [G2186] to [G4314] all [G3956] the [G3588] words [G3056] of the [G3588] law [G3551].
14: And [G2532] they found [G2147] written [G1125] in [G1722] the [G3588] law [G3551] which [G3739] BOSS gave charge [G1781][G2962] [to the [G3588] Moses, that [G3704] should dwell [G2730] the [G3588] sons [G5207] of Israel] in [G1722] tents [G4633] in [G1722] holiday [G1859] in [G1722] month [G3376] the [G3588] seventh [G1442];
15: and [G2532] that [G3704] they should signify [G4591] with [G1722] trumpets [G4536] in [G1722] all [G3956] the [G3588]ir cities [G4172][G1473], and [G2532] in [G1722] Jerusalem. And [G2532] Ezra said [G2036], Go forth [G1831] unto [G1519] the [G3588] raised-place (mountain) '[G3735], and [G2532] bring [G5342] leaves [G5444] olive [G1636], and [G2532] leaves [G5444] trees [G3586] of cypress , and [G2532] leaves [G5444] of a myrtle tree , and [G2532] leaves [G5444] of palms [G5404], and [G2532] leaves [G5444] tree [G3586] of bushy ! to make [G4160] tents [G4633] according to [G2596] the [G3588] writing [G1125].
16: And [G2532] went forth [G1831] the [G3588] people [G2992], and [G2532] brought [G5342], and [G2532] they made [G4160] for themselves [G1438] tents [G4633], [each] man upon [G1909] the [G3588] his roof [G1430][G1473], and [G2532] in [G1722] the [G3588]ir courtyards [G1473], and [G2532] in [G1722] the [G3588] courtyards of house [G3624] of the [G3588] God '[G2316], and [G2532] in [G1722] squares [G4113] of the [G3588] gate [G4439] of the [G3588] waters [G5204], and [G2532] in [G1722] the [G3588] squares [G4113] of the [G3588] gate [G4439] of Ephraim.
17: And [G2532] made [G4160] all [G3956] the [G3588] assembly [G1577] of the [G3588] [ones] returning [G1994] from the [G3588] captivity tents [G4633], and [G2532] they sat down [G2523] in [G1722] tents [G4633]; for [G3754] did not [G3756] do [G4160] from days [G2250] of Joshua 10> son [G5207] 11> of Nun thus [G3779] the [G3588] sons [G5207] of Israel] until [G2193] the [G3588] that day [G2250][G1565]. And [G2532] there became [G1096] gladness [G2167] a great [G3173] -- exceedingly much [G4970].
18: And [G2532] he read in [G1722] scroll of law [G3551] of the [G3588] God '[G2316] day [G2250] by [G1722] day [G2250]; from the [G3588] day [G2250] the [G3588] first [G4413] until [G2193] the [G3588] day [G2250] the [G3588] last [G2078]. And [G2532] they observed [G4160] holiday [G1859] seven [G2033] days [G2250], and [G2532] the [G3588] day [G2250] the [G3588] eighth [G3590] [was] a holiday recess , according to [G2596] the [G3588] distinguishing manner [G2917].
