Genesis Chapter 37 - | Early Church Bible

1: dwelt [G2730] And [G1161] Jacob] in [G1722] the [G3588] land '[G1093] of which [G3739] sojourned [G3939] the [G3588] his father [G3962][G1473] in [G1722] land '[G1093] of Canaan.
2: These [are [G3778] the [G3588] generations [G1078] of Jacob. And Joseph [G1161] ten [G1176] and [G2532] seven [G2033] years [old [G2094] was tending [G4165] the [G3588] sheep [G4263] of the [G3588] his father [G3962][G1473] with [G3326] the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473], being young [G3501] among [G3326] the [G3588] sons [G5207] of Bilhah, and [G2532] with [G3326] the [G3588] sons [G5207] of Zilpah, the [G3588] wives [G1135] of the [G3588] his father [G3962][G1473]. And they brought [G2702][G1161] against [G2596] Joseph fault a bad [G4190] to [G4314] Israel the [G3588]ir father [G3962][G1473].
3: But Jacob [G1161] loved the [G3588] Joseph beyond [G3844] all [G3956] the [G3588] his sons [G5207][G1473], for [G3754] son [G5207] of old age [G1094] he was to him [G1473]. And he made [G4160][G1161] for him [G1473] garment [G5509] a colored [G4164].
4: seeing [G1492] And [G1161] the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473] that [G3754] him [G1473] the [G3588] father [G3962] was fond of [G5368] over [G1537] all [G3956] of the [G3588] his sons [G5207][G1473], they detested [G3404] him [G1473], and [G2532] were not [G3756] able [G1410] to speak [G2980] to him [G1473], not one [thing] [G3762] peaceable [G1516].
5: dreaming [G1797] And [G1161] Joseph] a dream [G1798], reported it [G1473] [to the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473].
6: And [G2532] he said [G2036] to them [G1473], Hear the [G3588] this dream [G1798][G3778] which [G3739] I dreamed [G1797]!
7: I imagined [G3633] you [G1473] all were binding [G1195] sheaves in [G1722] the middle [G3319] of the [G3588] plain . And [G2532] there rose up the [G3588] my [G1699] sheaf , and [G2532] it was straight up . moving around And [G1161] the [G3588] sheaves your [G1473], did obeisance to [G4352] the [G3588] my [G1699] sheaf .
8: said [G2036] And [G1161] to him [G1473] the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473], Do you mean [G3361] in reigning you will reign over [G1909] us [G1473], or [G2228] in dominating [G2961] you will dominate [G2961] us [G1473]? And [G2532] they added [G4369] still [G2089] to detest [G3404] him [G1473] because of [G1752] the [G3588] his dreams [G1798][G1473], and [G2532] because of [G1752] the [G3588] his words [G4487][G1473].
9: And he saw [G1492][G1161] dream [G1798] another [G2087]. And [G2532] he described [G1334] it [G1473] [to the [G3588] his father [G3962][G1473], and [G2532] [to the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473]. And [G2532] he said [G2036], look [G2400], I dreamed [G1797] dream [G1798] another [G2087]; as if [G5618] the [G3588] sun [G2246], and [G2532] the [G3588] moon [G4582], and [G2532] eleven [G1733] stars did obeisance to [G4352] me [G1473].
10: And [G2532] reproached [G2008] him [G1473] the [G3588] his father [G3962][G1473], and [G2532] said [G2036] to him [G1473], What [G5100] the [G3588] [is] this dream [G1798][G3778] which [G3739] you dreamed [G1797]? Is it so indeed [G1065] in having come [G2064] I will come [G2064][G1473] also [G5037], and [G2532] the [G3588] your mother [G3384][G1473], and [G2532] the [G3588] your brothers [G1473], to do obeisance [G4352] to you [G1473] upon [G1909] the [G3588] land '[G1093]?
11: envied [G2206] And [G1161] him [G1473] the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473], the [G3588] but [G1161] his father [G3962][G1473] kept [G1301] the [G3588] saying [G4487].
12: went [G4198] And [G1161] the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473] to graze [G1006] the [G3588] sheep [G4263] of the [G3588]ir father [G3962][G1473] in [G1519] Shechem.
13: And [G2532] Israel said [G2036] to [G4314] Joseph, Did not [G3780] the [G3588] your brothers [G1473] tend [G4165] in [G1519] Shechem? Come [G1204], I will send you [G1473] to [G4314] them [G1473]. And he said [G2036][G1161] to him [G1473], look [G2400], I [am ready [G1473].
14: said [G2036] And [G1161] to him [G1473] Israel], [In] going [G4198] see [G1492] if [G1487] are in health [G5198] the [G3588] your brothers [G1473] and [G2532] the [G3588] sheep [G4263], and [G2532] announce [it to me [G1473]! And [G2532] he sent him [G1473] from [G1537] the [G3588] valley of the [G3588] Hebron. And [G2532] he came [G2064] into [G1519] Shechem.
15: And [G2532] found [G2147] him [G1473] a man wandering [G4105] in [G1722] the [G3588] plain . asked [G2065] And [G1161] him [G1473] the [G3588] man , saying [G3004], What [G5100] [do] you seek [G2212]?
16: the [G3588] And [G1161] he said [G2036], the [G3588] my brothers [G1473] I seek [G2212]; report to me [G1473] where [G4226] they graze [G1006]!
17: said [G2036] And [G1161] to him [G1473] the [G3588] man , They have departed from here [G1782]. For I heard [G1063] them [G1473] saying [G3004], Let us go [G4198] unto [G1519] Dothan. And [G2532] Joseph went [G4198] after the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473], and [G2532] found [G2147] them [G1473] in [G1722] Dothan.
18: And they spied [G4275][G1161] him [G1473] far off [G3113] before [G4253] the [G3588] his approaching [G1448][G1473] to [G4314] them [G1473]. And [G2532] they [acted] wickedly the [G3588] to kill him [G1473].
19: And said [G2036][G1161] each [G1538] to [G4314] the [G3588] brother of him [G1473], look [G2400], the [G3588] that dreamer [G1565] comes [G2064].
20: Now [G3568] then [G3767], come [G1205], let us kill him [G1473] and [G2532] toss [G4495] him [G1473] into [G1519] one [G1520] of the [G3588] wells ! And [G2532] we will say [G2046], wild beast [G2342] A ferocious [G4190] devoured [G2719] him [G1473]. And [G2532] we will see [G3708] what [G5100] will be of the [G3588] his dreams [G1798][G1473].
21: hearing And [G1161] Reuben], rescued [G1807] him [G1473] from out of [G1537] the [G3588]ir hands [G5495][G1473]. And [G2532] he said [G2036], Do not [G3756] strike [G3960] him [G1473] [as far as his [G1519] life [G5590].
22: said [G2036] And [G1161] to them [G1473] Reuben], You should not [G3361] shed [G1632] blood , put [G1685] him [G1473] into [G1519] one [G1520] of the [G3588]se wells [G3778] of the [G3588] [ones] in [G1722] the [G3588] wilderness [G2048], a hand [G5495] and [G1161] not [G3361] bear [G2018] against him [G1473], that [G3704] he might rescue [G1807] him [G1473] from out of [G1537] the [G3588]ir hands [G5495][G1473], and [G2532] that he might give him [G1473] [to the [G3588] his father [G3962][G1473].
23: And it came to pass [G1096][G1161] when [G2259] Joseph came [G2064] to [G4314] the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473], they took off [G1562] Joseph the [G3588] garment [G5509] the [G3588] colored [G4164], the [G3588] [one] around [G4012] him [G1473].
24: And [G2532] taking [G2983] him [G1473], they tossed [G4495] him [G1473] into [G1519] the [G3588] well . But the [G3588][G1161] well [was] empty [G2756], water [G5204] it did not [G3756] have [G2192].
25: And they sat down [G2523][G1161] to eat [G2068] bread . And [G2532] looking up with the [G3588] eyes [G3788] they saw [G1492]. And [G2532] look [G2400], journeying Ishmaelites having come [G2064] from [G1537] Gilead, and [G2532] the [G3588]ir camels [G2574][G1473] full [G1073] of incenses [G2368], and [G2532] balm , and [G2532] balsam . And they were going [G4198][G1161] leading down [G2609] into [G1519] Egypt.
26: said [G2036] And [G1161] Judah] to [G4314] the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473], What [G5100] profit [G5539] if [G1437] we kill the [G3588] our brother [G1473], and [G2532] hide [G2928] the [G3588] blood of him [G1473]?
27: Come [G1205] let us give him [G1473] the [G3588] to these Ishmaelites [G3778], and the [G3588][G1161] hands of ours [G5495][G1473], let them not be [G3361] upon [G1909] him [G1473]! for [he is [G3754] our brother [G1473], and [G2532] flesh [G4561] he is our [G1473]. hearkened And [G1161] the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473].
28: And [G2532] came near [G3899] the [G3588] men , the [G3588] Midianite merchants [G1713], and [G2532] they drew out [G1828] and [G2532] hauled the [G3588] Joseph from out of [G1537] the [G3588] well . And [G2532] rendered for the [G3588] Joseph the [G3588] Ishmaelites] twenty [G1501] [pieces] of gold [G5552]. And [G2532] they led [G2609] the [G3588] Joseph into [G1519] Egypt.
29: returned And [G1161] Ruben] upon [G1909] the [G3588] well , and [G2532] he did not [G3756] see [G3708] the [G3588] Joseph in [G1722] the [G3588] well , and [G2532] he tore [G1284] the [G3588] his clothes [G2440][G1473].
30: And [G2532] he turned [G1994] towards [G4314] the [G3588] brothers of him [G1473], and [G2532] he said [G2036], the [G3588] boy [G3808] not [G3756] is , and I [G1473][G1161], where [G4226] will I go [G4198] yet [G2089]?
31: And taking [G2983][G1161] the [G3588] garment [G5509] of the [G3588] Joseph, they slew [G4969] a kid [G2056] of goats , and [G2532] tainted [G3435] the [G3588] garment [G5509] in the [G3588] blood .
32: And [G2532] they sent the [G3588] garment [G5509] the [G3588] colored [G4164], and [G2532] they carried it [G1533] [to the [G3588]ir father [G3962][G1473], and [G2532] said [G2036], This [G3778] we found [G2147], [do] you recognize [G1921] if [G1487] garment [G5509] the [G3588] son [G5207] is of your [G1473] or [G2228] not [G3756]?
33: And [G2532] he recognized [G1921] it [G1473], and [G2532] said [G2036], garment [G5509] of the [G3588] my son [G5207][G1473] is , wild beast [G2342] a ferocious [G4190] devoured [G2719] him [G1473], a wild beast [G2342] seized the [G3588] Joseph.
34: tore [G1284] And [G1161] Jacob the [G3588] his clothes [G2440][G1473], and [G2532] placed [G2007] sackcloth [G4526] upon [G1909] the [G3588] his loin [G3751][G1473], and [G2532] mourned [for [G3996] the [G3588] son [G5207] of him [G1473] days [G2250] many [G4183].
35: came together [G4863] And [G1161] all [G3956] the [G3588] his sons [G5207][G1473] and [G2532] the [G3588] daughters [G2364]. And [G2532] they came [G2064] to comfort [G3870] him [G1473], and [G2532] he did not [G3756] want [G2309] to be comforted [G3870], saying [G3004] that [G3754], I will go down [G2597] to [G4314] the [G3588] my son [G5207][G1473] in mourning [G3996] into [G1519] Hades . And [G2532] wept [G2799] for him [G1473] the [G3588] his father [G3962][G1473].
36: And the [G3588][G1161] Midianites gave the [G3588] Joseph into [G1519] Egypt the [G3588] to Potiphar the [G3588] castrato of Pharaoh -- chief guard .
