Genesis Chapter 34 - | Early Church Bible

1: And went forth [G1831][G1161] Dinah, the [G3588] daughter [G2364] whom Leah [G3739] bore [G5088] the [G3588] to Jacob, to study [G2648] the [G3588] daughters [G2364] of the [G3588] native inhabitants .
2: And [G2532] looked [at] [G1492] her [G1473] Shechem], the [G3588] son [G5207] of Hamor the [G3588] Hivite, the [G3588] ruler of the [G3588] land '[G1093]. And [G2532] taking [G2983] her [G1473], he went to bed [G2837] with [G3326] her [G1473], and [G2532] humbled [G5013] her [G1473].
3: And [G2532] he took heed [G4337] to the [G3588] soul [G5590] of Dinah the [G3588] daughter [G2364] of Jacob. And [G2532] he loved the [G3588] virgin [G3933], and [G2532] he spoke [G2980] concerning [G2596] the [G3588] thought [G1271] of the [G3588] her virgin [state [G3933][G1473].
4: And said [G2036][G1161] Shechem to [G4314] Hamor the [G3588] his father [G3962][G1473], saying [G3004], Take [G2983] for me [G1473] the [G3588] this maidservant [G3816][G3778] for [G1519] a wife [G1135].
5: And Jacob [G1161] heard that [G3754] defiled [G3392] the [G3588] son [G5207] of Hamor] Dinah the [G3588] his daughter [G2364][G1473]. the [G3588] But [G1161] his sons [G5207][G1473] were with [G3326] the [G3588] his cattle [G2934][G1473] in [G1722] the [G3588] plain . remained silent And [G1161] Jacob] until [G2193] the [G3588]y came [G2064][G1473].
6: And came forth [G1831][G1161] Hamor the [G3588] father [G3962] of Shechem to [G4314] Jacob to speak [G2980] to him [G1473].
7: And the [G3588][G1161] sons [G5207] of Jacob came [G2064] from [G1537] the [G3588] plain . And as [G5613][G1161] they heard , were vexed [G2660] the [G3588] men , and [G2532] it was distressing to them [G1473] exceedingly [G4970]. For [G3754] an indecent [act he did [G4160] in [G1722] Israel, going to bed [G2837] with [G3326] the [G3588] daughter [G2364] of Jacob. And [G2532] not [G3756] thus [G3779] will it be .
8: And [G2532] Hamor spoke [G2980] to them [G1473], saying [G3004], Shechem the [G3588] my son [G5207][G1473] prefers [G4255] in [his the [G3588] soul [G5590] the [G3588] daughter [G2364] of you [G1473]. Give [G1325] her then [G3767][G1473] to him [G1473] [as] wife [G1135]!
9: And [G2532] be allied by marriage [G1918] to us [G1473]! the [G3588] your daughters [G2364][G1473] You give [G1325] us [G1473], and [G2532] the [G3588] our daughters [G2364][G1473] you take [G2983] for the [G3588] your sons [G5207][G1473]!
10: And [G2532] with [G1722] us [G1473] dwell [G2730]! And [G2532] the [G3588] land '[G1093] -- look [G2400], [it is] spacious [G4116] before [G1726] you [G1473]; you dwell [G2730] and [G2532] [do] trade [G1710] in [G1909] it [G1473], and [G2532] acquire possessions [G2932] in [G1722] it [G1473]!
11: said [G2036] And [G1161] Shechem] to [G4314] the [G3588] her father [G3962][G1473], and [G2532] to [G4314] the [G3588] her brothers [G1473], I want to find [G2147] favor [G5484] before [G1726] you [G1473], and [G2532] what [G3739] ever [G1437] you should have said [G2036] we will give [G1325].
12: You multiply [G4129] the [G3588] dowry exceedingly [G4970]! and [G2532] I will give [G1325] in so far as [G2530] whatever you should have said [G2036] to me [G1473]. And [G2532] you will give [G1325] to me [G1473] the [G3588] this child [G3816][G3778] as [G1519] wife [G1135].
13: responded And [G1161] the [G3588] sons [G5207] of Jacob the [G3588] to Shechem and [G2532] Hamor the [G3588] his father [G3962][G1473] with [G3326] treachery [G1388]. And [G2532] they spoke [G2980] to them [G1473], for [G3754] they defiled [G3392] Dinah the [G3588]ir sister [G1473].
14: And [G2532] said [G2036] to them [G1473] Simeon and [G2532] Levi the [G3588] brothers of Dinah, We will not be able [G3756][G1410] to do [G4160] the [G3588] this matter [G4487][G3778], to give [G1325] the [G3588] our sister [G1473] to a man who [G3739] has [G2192] a foreskin , for it is [G1063] scorn [G3681] to us [G1473].
15: Only [G3440] in [G1722] this [G3778] we will be like [G3666] you [G1473], and [G2532] dwell [G2730] among [G1722] you [G1473], if [G1437] you should become [G1096] as [G5613] us [G1473] and [we [G2532] you [G1473], in [G1722] the [G3588] circumcision [G4059] of yours [G1473] of every [G3956] male .
16: And [G2532] we will give [G1325] the [G3588] our daughters [G2364][G1473] to you [G1473], and [G2532] from the [G3588] your daughters [G2364][G1473] we will take [G2983] to ourselves [G1473] wives [G1135], and [G2532] we will live [G3611] by [G3844] you [G1473], and [G2532] we will be race [G1085] one [G1520].
17: But if [G1437][G1161] you should not listen to [G3361][G1522] us [G1473], of the [G3588] being circumcised [G4059], taking [G2983] the [G3588] our daughter [G2364][G1473], we will go forth .
18: And [G2532] were pleasing the [G3588] words [G3056] before [G1726] Hamor, and [G2532] before [G1726] Shechem the [G3588] son [G5207] of Hamor.
19: And [G2532] did not [G3756] pass time [G5549] the [G3588] young [man [G3495] the [G3588] to do [G4160] the [G3588] this word [G4487][G3778], for he clung [G1063] to the [G3588] daughter [G2364] of Jacob. And he [G1473][G1161] was most honorable [G1741] of all [G3956] of the [ones] the [G3588] in [G1722] the [G3588] house [G3624] of the [G3588] his father [G3962][G1473].
20: came [G2064] And [G1161] Hamor and [G2532] Shechem the [G3588] son [G5207] of him [G1473] to [G4314] the [G3588] gate [G4439] of the [G3588]ir city [G4172][G1473], and [G2532] spoke [G2980] to [G4314] the [G3588] men of the [G3588]ir city [G4172][G1473], saying [G3004],
21: the [G3588] men these [G3778] are peaceable [G1516] with [G3326] us [G1473]; let them live [G3611] upon [G1909] the [G3588] land '[G1093], and [G2532] let them trade [G1710] in [G1722] it [G1473]! And the [G3588][G1161] land '[G1093], look [G2400], [it is] spacious [G4116] before [G1726] them [G1473]; the [G3588] of their daughters [G2364][G1473] we will take [G2983] to ourselves [G1473] wives [G1135], and [G2532] the [G3588] daughters [G2364] we will give our [G1473][G1325] to them [G1473].
22: In [G1722] this [G3778] only [G3440] will be like [G3666] us [G1473] the [G3588] men , the [G3588] to dwell [G2730] with [G3326] us [G1473], so as [G5620] to be people [G2992] one [G1520] -- in [G1722] the [G3588] being circumcised [G4059] of us [G1473] every [G3956] male , as [G2505] also [G2532] they [G1473] have been circumcised [G4059].
23: And [G2532] the [G3588]ir cattle [G2934][G1473], and [G2532] the [G3588] four-footed [animals [G5074], and [G2532] the [G3588]ir possessions [G5224][G1473] -- not [G3756] ours [G1473] will they be ? Only [G3440] in [G1722] this [G3778], should we be like [G3666] them [G1473], and [G2532] they will live [G3611] with [G3326] us [G1473].
24: And [G2532] they listened to [G1522] Hamor and [G2532] Shechem the [G3588] son [G5207] of him [G1473], and [G2532] all [G3956] the [ones] the [G3588] going forth [G1607] at the [G3588] gate [G4439] of the [G3588]ir city [G4172][G1473]. And [G2532] they were circumcised [G4059] in the [G3588] flesh [G4561] of the [G3588]ir foreskin [G1473] -- every [G3956] male .
25: And it came to pass [G1096][G1161] in [G1722] the [G3588] day [G2250] the [G3588] third [G5154], when [G3753] they were in [G1722] the [G3588] misery [G4192], taking [G2983] the [G3588] two [G1417] sons [G5207] of Jacob Simeon and [G2532] Levi brothers of Dinah 10> each [G1538] the [G3588] his sword [G3162][G1473], even [G2532] entered [G1525] to [G1519] the [G3588] city [G4172] safely , and [G2532] killed every [G3956] male .
26: the [G3588] Also [G5037] Hamor and [G2532] Shechem the [G3588] son [G5207] of him [G1473] they killed by [G1722] mouth [G4750] of sword [G3162]. And [G2532] they took [G2983] the [G3588] Dinah from [G1537] the [G3588] house [G3624] of the [G3588] Shechem, and [G2532] went forth [G1831].
27: And the [G3588][G1161] sons [G5207] of Jacob entered [G1525] unto [G1909] the [G3588] wounded , and [G2532] plundered [G1283] the [G3588] city [G4172] in [G1722] which [G3739] was defiled [G3392] Dinah the [G3588]ir sister [G1473].
28: And [G2532] the [G3588]ir sheep [G4263][G1473], and [G2532] the [G3588]ir oxen [G1016][G1473], and [G2532] the [G3588]ir donkeys [G3688][G1473], as much as [G3745] was in [G1722] the [G3588] city [G4172], and [G2532] as much as [G3745] was in [G1722] the [G3588] plain , they took [G2983].
29: And [G2532] all [G3956] the [G3588]ir persons [G4983][G1473], and [G2532] all [G3956] the [G3588]ir belongings [G1473], and [G2532] the [G3588]ir women [G1135][G1473] they captured . And [G2532] they plundered [G1283] as much as [G3745] was in [G1722] the [G3588] city [G4172], and [G2532] as much as [G3745] was in [G1722] the [G3588] houses [G3614].
30: said [G2036] And [G1161] Jacob] to [G4314] Simeon and [G2532] Levi, me detested [G1473] You have made [G4160], so as [G5620] wicked [G4190] for me [G1473] to be to all [G3956] the [ones] the [G3588] dwelling [G2730] the [G3588] land '[G1093], among [G1722] both [G5037] the [G3588] Canaanites and [G2532] among [G1722] the [G3588] Perizzites. And I [G1473][G1161] am very few in [G1722] number . And [G2532] gathering [G4863] against [G1909] me [G1473], they will cut me down [G1473], and [G2532] I will be obliterated , I [G1473] and [G2532] the [G3588] my house [G3624][G1473].
31: the [G3588] And [G1161] they said [G2036], But as [G5616] a harlot [G4204] they treated [G5530] the [G3588] our sister [G1473].
