Nehemiah Chapter 13 - | Early Church Bible

1: In [G1722] the [G3588] that day [G2250][G1565] [they] read in [G1722] scroll of Moses into [G1722] ears [G3775] of the [G3588] people [G2992]. And [G2532] it was found [G2147] written [G1125] in [G1722] it [G1473] how that [G3704] should not [G3361] enter [G1525] Ammonite and [G2532] Moabite] into [G1722] assembly [G1577] of God '[G2316] unto [G2193] age (term) `.
2: For [G3754] they did not [G3756] meet [G4876] the [G3588] sons [G5207] of Israel with [G1722] bread and [G2532] water [G5204], and [G2532] they hired [G3409] against [G1909] them [G1473] the [G3588] Balaam to curse [G2672] them [G1473]. And [G2532] turned [G1994] the [G3588] our God '[G2316][G1473] the [G3588] curse [G2671] into [G1519] a blessing [G2129].
3: And [G2532] it came to pass [G1096] as [G5613] they heard the [G3588] law [G3551], that [G2532] they separated [G5563] all [G3956] intermixed in [G1722] Israel.
4: And [G2532] before [G4253] this [G3778] Eliashib the [G3588] priest [G2409] lived [G3611] in [G1722] treasury [G1049] of house [G3624] of our God '[G2316][G1473], near [G1448] Tobiah.
5: And [G2532] he made [G4160] for him [G1438] treasury [G1049] a great [G3173], and [G2532] there [G1563] they were formerly [G4387] giving [G1325] the [G3588] sacrifice [offering [G2378], and [G2532] the [G3588] frankincense [G3030], and [G2532] the [G3588] vessels [G4632], and [G2532] the [G3588] tenth [G1181] of the [G3588] grain [G4621], and [G2532] of the [G3588] wine [G3631], and [G2532] of the [G3588] olive oil [G1637], a commandment [G1785] of the [G3588] Levites, and [G2532] of the [G3588] singers , and [G2532] of the [G3588] gatekeepers , and [G2532] first-fruits of the [G3588] priests [G2409].
6: And [G2532] during [G1722] all [G3956] this [G3778] I was not [G3756] in [G1722] Jerusalem. For [G3754] in [G1722] year [G2094] thirtieth and [G2532] second [G1208] the [G3588] of Artaxerxes king of Babylon I went [G2064] to [G4314] the [G3588] king , and [G2532] after [G3326] the [G3588] end [G5056] of the [G3588] days [G2250] I asked [things] of [G3844] the [G3588] king .
7: And [G2532] I came [G2064] into [G1519] Jerusalem, and [G2532] I perceived [G4920][G1722] the [G3588] wickedness [G4189] which [G3739] Eliashib did [G4160] for the [G3588] Tobiah, to make [G4160] for him [G1473] a treasury [G1049] in [G1722] courtyard of house [G3624] of the [G3588] God '[G2316].
8: And [G2532] wicked [G4190] to me [G1473] it appeared [G5316] exceedingly [G4970], and [G2532] I tossed [G4495] all [G3956] the [G3588] items [G4632] of house [G3624] of Tobiah outside [G1854] off the [G3588] treasury [G1049].
9: And [G2532] I spoke [G2036], and [G2532] they cleansed [G2511] the [G3588] treasuries [G1049]. And [G2532] I returned [G1994] there [G1563] vessels [G4632] of house [G3624] of the [G3588] God '[G2316] for the [G3588] sacrifice [offering [G2378] and [G2532] the [G3588] frankincense [G3030].
10: And [G2532] I knew [G1097] that [G3754] portions [G3310] of the [G3588] Levites were not [G3756] given [them [G1325]; and [G2532] fled [G5343] [every] man unto [G1519] his own field [G1438], the [G3588] Levites and [G2532] the [G3588] singers , and [G2532] ones doing [G4160] the [G3588] work [G2041].
11: And [G2532] I quarreled [G3164] with the [G3588] commandants [G4755], and [G2532] said [G2036], Why did [G1302] it abandon [G1459] the [G3588] house [G3624] of the [G3588] God '[G2316]? And [G2532] I gathered [G4863] them [G1473], and [G2532] set [G2476] them [G1473] at [G1909] the [G3588]ir station [G4714][G1473].
12: And [G2532] all [G3956] Judah brought [G5342] a tenth [G1181] of the [G3588] wheat and [G2532] of the [G3588] wine [G3631] and [G2532] of the [G3588] olive oil [G1637] into [G1519] the [G3588] treasuries [G2344].
13: And [G2532] I gave charge [G1781] unto [G1909] hand [G5495] of Shelemiah the [G3588] priest [G2409], and [G2532] Zadok the [G3588] scholar (scribe) '[G1122] (sofer [H5613]), and [G2532] Pedaiah off the [G3588] Levites; and [G2532] near [G1909] their hand [G5495][G1473] [was] Hanan son [G5207] of Zaccur, son [G5207] of Mattaniah. For [G3754] trustworthy [G4103] they were considered [G3049], [as it was] upon [G1909] them [G1473] to portion [out [G3307] [to the [G3588]ir brothers [G1473].
14: Remember [G3403] me [G1473], O the [G3588] God '[G2316], in [G1722] this [G3778]! that [G2532] should not be wiped away [G3361][G1813] the [G3588] my [acts of] compassion [G1656][G1473], which [G3739] I did [G4160] in [G1722] house [G3624] of Boss '[G2962] the [G3588] God '[G2316] of me [G1473], and [G2532] in [G1722] the [G3588] his watches [G5438][G1473].
15: In [G1722] the [G3588] those days [G2250][G1565] I looked [at] [G1492] in [G1722] Judah ones treading [G3961] wine vats [G3025] on [G1722] the [G3588] Sabbath [G4521], and [G2532] bringing [G5342] sheaves , and [G2532] loading upon [G1909] the [G3588] donkeys [G3688]; even [G2532] wine [G3631], and [G2532] grape cluster [G4718], and [G2532] figs [G4810], and [G2532] every [G3956] burden , and [G2532] bringing [them [G5342] into [G1519] Jerusalem on [G1722] day [G2250] of the [G3588] Sabbath [G4521]. And [G2532] I attested to them [G1957] in [G1722] day [G2250] of their sale [G1473].
16: For [G3754] sold [G4453] provision [G1979] even [G2532] the [G3588] [ones] of Tyre], and [G2532] sat down [G2523] by [G1722] it [G1473] bringing [G5342] fish [G2486], and [G2532] every [item [G3956] for sale selling [G4453] on [G1722] the [G3588] Sabbath [G4521] to the [G3588] sons [G5207] of Judah, and [G2532] in [G1722] Jerusalem.
17: And [G2532] I quarreled [G2919] with [G3326] the [G3588] free [men [G1658] of Judah, and [G2532] I said [G2036] to them [G1473], What [is [G5100] the [G3588] word '[G3056] this [G3778] the [G3588] wicked [G4190] which [G3739] you [G1473] do [G4160], and [G2532] profane the [G3588] day [G2250] of the [G3588] Sabbath [G4521]?
18: Did not [G3780] thus [G3779] do [G4160] the [G3588] your fathers [G3962][G1473], and [G2532] brought [G5342] upon [G1909] them [G1473] the [G3588] our God '[G2316][G1473] and [G2532] upon [G1909] us [G1473] all [G3956] the [G3588]se evils [G2556][G3778], even [G2532] upon [G1909] the [G3588] this city [G4172][G3778]? And [G2532] you [G1473] add to [G4369] anger [G3709] upon [G1909] Israel to profane the [G3588] Sabbath [G4521].
19: And [G2532] it came to pass [G1096] when [G2259] were stood [G2525] gates [G4439] in [G1722] Jerusalem before [G4253] the [G3588] Sabbath [G4521], that [G2532] I spoke [G2036], and [G2532] they locked [G2808] the [G3588] gates [G4439]. And [G2532] I spoke [G2036] so as [G5620] to not [G3361] open them [G1473] until [G2193] after [G3694] the [G3588] Sabbath [G4521]. And [G2532] some of [G1537] the [G3588] my young men [G3808][G1473] I stood [G2476] at [G1909] the [G3588] gates [G4439], so as [G5620] to not [G3361] lift burdens on [G1722] day [G2250] of the [G3588] Sabbath [G4521].
20: And [G2532] lodged all [G3956] the [G3588] traders and [G2532] did [G4160] business outside [G1854] of Jerusalem once or [G2532] twice [G1364].
21: And [G2532] I testified [G1263] to them [G1473], and [G2532] I said [G2036] to [G4314] them [G1473], Why [G1302] do you [G1473] lodge before the [G3588] wall [G5038]? If [G1437] you repeat it a second time , I will stretch out [G1614] the [G3588] my hand [G5495][G1473] against [G1722] you [G1473]. From the [G3588] that time [G2540][G1565] they did not [G3756] come [G2064] on [G1722] Sabbath [G4521].
22: And [G2532] I spoke [G2036] to the [G3588] Levites who [G3739] were being cleansed [G2511], and [G2532] ones coming [G2064] guarding [G5442] the [G3588] gates [G4439] to sanctify the [G3588] day [G2250] of the [G3588] Sabbath [G4521]. For [G4314] these [things] [G3778] remember [G3403] me [G1473], O the [G3588] God '[G2316] of me [G1473], and [G2532] spare [G5339] me [G1473] according to [G2596] the [G3588] magnitude [G4128] of the [G3588] your compassion [G1656][G1473]!
23: And [G2532] in [G1722] the [G3588] those days [G2250][G1565] I saw [G1492] the [G3588] Jews who [G3739] sat down [G2523] with wives [G1135] of Ashdod, of Ammon, [and] Moab.
24: And [G2532] the [G3588]ir sons [G5207][G1473] half [G2255] [were] speaking [G2980] Ashdodish, and [G2532] not [G3756] are knowing [G1921] to speak [G2980] Jewish , but [spoke according to [G2596] language [G1100] of [this] people [G2992] and [G2532] [that] people [G2992].
25: And [G2532] I quarreled [G3164] with [G3326] them [G1473], and [G2532] cursed [G2672] them [G1473], and [G2532] I struck [G3960] some [G1722] of their [G1473] men , and [G2532] I plucked their hair [G1473], and [G2532] I bound them to an oath [G3726][G1473] by [G1722] the [G3588] God '[G2316], You will not give [G1325] the [G3588] your daughters [G2364][G1473] [to the [G3588]ir sons [G5207][G1473], and [G2532] you will not indeed take [G2983] of the [G3588]ir daughters [G2364][G1473] [for the [G3588] your sons [G5207][G1473], and [G2532] to yourselves [G1438].
26: Did not [G3756] thus [G3779] sin Solomon king of Israel]? and [G2532] among [G1722] tradition-peoples (ethnics) '[G1484] many [G4183] there was not [G3756] a king likened [G3664] to him [G1473], and [G2532] one being loved the [G3588] by God '[G2316] he was , and [G2532] appointed [G1325] him [G1473] the [G3588] God '[G2316] as [G1519] king over [G1909] all [G3956] Israel, and [G2532] in this [G3778] turned [him] aside [G1578] the [G3588] wives [G1135] the [G3588] alien .
27: So [G2532] with you [G1473] should we not [G3361] hearken to do [G4160] the [G3588] this wickedness [G4189][G3778], to break contract with [G1722] the [G3588] our God '[G2316][G1473], and [G2532] to sit down with [G2523] wives [G1135] alien ?
28: And [G2532] from sons [G5207] of Joiada, the [G3588] Eliashib the [G3588] priest [G2409] the [G3588] great [G3173], in-law the [G3588] to Sanballat the [G3588] Horonite -- even [G2532] I threw him [G1473] from me [G1473].
29: Remember [G3403] them [G1473], O the [G3588] God '[G2316] of me [G1473], [for they were] against [G1909] right of inheritance of the [G3588] priesthood [G2405], and [G2532] the [G3588] covenant [G1242] of the [G3588] priesthood [G2405], and [G2532] of the [G3588] Levites!
30: And [G2532] I cleansed [G2511] them [G1473] from all [G3956] alien [connection , and [G2532] I set [G2476] daily rotations [G2183] for the [G3588] priests [G2409] and [G2532] for the [G3588] Levites, every man according to [G5613] the [G3588] his work [G2041][G1473];
31: even [G2532] for [G1519] the [G3588] gift [G1435] of the [G3588] wood offerings [G3586] in [G1722] seasons [G2540], from times [G5550], and [G2532] in [G1722] the [G3588] first produce . Remember [G3403] me [G1473], O the [G3588] our God '[G2316][G1473], for [G1519] goodness !
